If you just hear His words and don't practice them, the Bible calls you foolish.....

Chapter 3 of 1st Samuel begins by saying In those days the word of the LORD was rare 1 Sam. 3:1. God stopped speaking, or did He? It could also be that He was speaking but nobody was paying attention.....

The laws of God are like the seat belt law.  They are meant to save you and I from disaster.  God values our life.  He gave us life and a Bible to live it by much like an auto manufacturer would give you a car and a users’ manual. 

I have never come across a material estimating the number of books produced in the history of mankind.  In all of history how many books do you think people have written?  May be billions?  Trillions?  I don’t know.  But, we know some things about these books.....

You may be a teacher, a preacher or a pastor or you may just be a member at your local church.  Whichever you are,  it is the Holy Spirit and only the Holy Spirit that helps you either teach or learn.  Without the Holy Spirit there is no teacher.  Neither is there a student....

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”  Psalm 119:11

The Psalmist is singing about HIDING the Word in his heart.  You normally hide something because you’re afraid someone might steal it.  There is someone that Jesus called "the thief" in the bible and that is the devil.  He is the thief who is out there to steal the word that is in your heart..... 

If you do a concordance search of the NIV using keywords apple and eye, one of the verses you will find is Proverbs 7:2.  It says, “Guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart”

The apple of your eye is the centre of your eye.  It is one part of our body that we all guard very much....   

It is healthy to be hungry.  If you have good appetite, you should be thankful.  Hunger is a good thing as long as you have something to eat.  It is a blessing.  Famine, on the other hand, is when you are hungry and there is nothing to eat.  You have seen all the horrible scenes on TV of people affected by famine. 

The Bible speaks of spiritual famine in the book of Amos.  It says.....

As Christians we have the responsibility to be interested in everything that is in the bible.  If God cares enough to put it in the Bible, we should care enough to pay attention.....

......The bible is not outdated. In fact it is probably more relevant today than the time when it was produced.  If there is any other book today written in Bible times, it is sitting in an antique books museum with a sign that says “Do Not Touch”.  The Bible is the only book written so long ago that people are more than welcome to touch today.....

I have no reason to believe that most of the Bible writers had a Bible in mind when they wrote the Bible.  When Paul wrote the letter to Timothy, for example, I don’t see any indication that Paul intended it to be a Bible.....

If you trust in the Lord,  the Bible calls you a tree planted by the water that never fails to bear fruit.  Jer 17:7-8

If you are eager for the Word and examine the scriptures everyday,  the Bible calls you noble.  Acts 17:11

If you take the words of Jesus and put them into practice,  the Bible calls you wise.  Matthew 7:24

What makes you a good Christian is not how much interested you are in the Word of God.  Most of us are.  But it is how deep you let it into your life.  A lot of us are good at going deep into the Word but not so good at letting the Word go deep into our lives.....

Read your Bible. Don’t live on sermons. Read your Bible carefully like you read your chemistry text book. Don’t use your denominational magnifiers or glasses. Every time you read it, read it just like it is,  as if you have never read it before.....

These days I get a lot of junk e-mails from on-line pharmacies promising to sell cheap medicine. What they don’t know is that I get all my medications for free. Here is a list of the medications I take and the name of the Doctor who wrote the prescription:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.....

The Word is your spiritual food. Jesus said “A man does not live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God”. Matthew 4:4. But how good this food tastes in your mouth depends on how hungry you are.....
