The Bible After 2000 Years
By Semere @ 1:57 PM :: 251 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: The word/The bible, Love

I know a lot of people think that the bible is an outdated book that bears no relevance to our lives today.  I can’t help wondering how many of those people have enough knowledge of the Bible to back up their opinion.  Unfortunately, everybody is entitled to their opinion.  But an opinion will have authority only when it is based on expert knowledge.  Everybody listens to Pele these days as he gives his opinion about the World Cup Soccer.  We all listen because he is a proven soccer expert.  Anyone who claims that the bible is not relevant should have an expert knowledge of the Bible.  Otherwise, the opinion would be based more on stereotyping than anything.

This week I was reading what Jesus said to His disciples about love.  He said, “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

I looked at that verse and I thought this verse is probably more relevant today than when Jesus said it.   We live in a time where love practically does not exist.  What is called love today is filth.  What is called love today is selfish feeling.  What is called love today is a mere emotional feeling that is here today and gone tomorrow.  Jesus wants to change that.  He gave us a command to love one another.  For anyone who believes that Jesus is Lord, love is a command, not a feeling.  Love is not about how you feel about others.  Practical love is about how you act towards others.

Millions of Christians around the world find practical advice from the Bible that they apply to their daily lives.  I am one of them.  The bible is not outdated. In fact it is probably more relevant today than the time when it was produced.  If there is any other book today written in Bible times, it is sitting in an antique books museum with a sign that says “Do Not Touch”.  The Bible is the only book written so long ago that people are more than welcome to touch today.

Praise the Lord,
