What is truth?
Pilate asked this very important question 2000 years ago. Poor Pilate. He was torn between the truth and pleasing people. He knew that Jesus was innocent but he had this immense pressure from the Jews to crucify him. He thought by taking water and washing his hands he can have Jesus and also please the Jews. I have been dreaming about being there myself when he washed his hands and saying to him, “I am sorry, Pilate, you just can’t have both. Choose now between Jesus and this crowd that you are trying to please. Washing your hands is not enough. Wash your heart. You have to say YES or NO to Jesus. There is nothing in between”
I am always intrigued by why he wrote “JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS” on the cross and said “I have written what I have written” when asked why. Anyways, that is a side note.
Every generation has its own Pilates. Joshua was frustrated with the pilates of his generation who were torn between idols and the Lord. He said to them, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve … as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." Josh 24:15 Elijah too had the same frustration. That is why he said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." 1 Kings 18:21
I bet you our world is full of 21 century Pilates torn between Jesus and a bunch of other things. They want Jesus and they want all these other things too. They want the truth but they don’t want to change their way of life. Hey, what is the point of truth if it doesn’t change you?
There is an excellent short apologetic material that our own Josh wrote with regards to whether truth is absolute or relative on his blog. First read his testimony at http://jga.misirach.org/Testimonials.aspx and visit his blog via the link provided in his testimony.
Jesus said “I am the Truth”. Absolutely! He and only he is the absolute Truth. He can’t be compromised. He deserves total submission and 100% attention.
If you think truth is not absolute, you haven’t tried Jesus.
