Witnesses Or Advocates

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” 1 John 2:1

At all times we should be clear about Him being our advocate and not the other way round. Our job is not to be His advocates or defend God. Our job is to tell the truth like the blind man who said “I don’t know if He is a sinner or not. What I know is that I was blind but now I see” John 9:25. He was just telling the truth without trying to defend Jesus. In reality, however, the truth was defending Jesus big time. That is the power of truth. That is the power that wins souls.

Christians who try to defend God have the tone of a salesperson trying to sell a defective product. On the other hand, Christians who tell the truth without being defensive have the tone of a credible, honest and sincere person. When you tell the truth, you have power.

People generally have respect for the truth. If you have it in your bones and not just in your words, they will respect you and listen to you. Isn’t that why the witness in a court room is more credible than the defendant or even the lawyer? Three witnesses make a very strong case. Three lawyers don’t. The lawyers are smart, educated etc... but witnesses are expected to be truthful, however dumb.

We are not God’s lawyers. We are witnesses of His amazing love. We testify to His love but He is in no way dependent on our testimony. If you are serious about being a witness to the Lord, make sure you have a good dose of the truth in your lifestyle. Truth is the only weapon with which we are to preach the gospel. It is subtly the most powerful weapon you can ever have.
