In Acts Ch. 8 there is a story of this Abesha man. He was sitting on a chariot coming back from a worship service and heading home. He had a Bible in his hand that he was reading aloud.
Unfortunately, despite all the zeal and effort, his answer when he was asked if he understood what he was reading was: “How can I, unless someone explains it to me” Acts 8:31
The story of this Ethiopian man is 2000 years old. Today, 2000 years later, there are countless Ethiopians who are like this ancestor of ours. Like him they go to worship services, like him they own and read the Bible. They even read books in a language they don’t understand. They need someone like Philip to explain to them what their Bible says.
I don’t know why God had to choose Philip to help this man. But, one thing is clear. Philip knew his Bible well. He was able to give this Ethiopian man an accurate interpretation of Isaiah 53. The Bible records that the man finally got baptized and went home rejoicing.
God is calling you and I to be the Philip of the 21st century to help those Ethiopians understand the true meaning of the Bible they read; to help them understand that “There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:12
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says” Rev 2:17
