“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have COMMANDED YOU” Matt 28:20
If you go to all the 27 chapters preceding this chapter, you will see Jesus teaching His disciples and giving them commandments, making them disciples. In chapter 28 when He gave them this task of the great commission, He did not give them a new message to be delivered. He just asked them to pass on “everything I have COMMANDED YOU” for three and half years.
No doubt that they are messengers but what makes them different is that they already own the message they are now being asked to deliver. They received it, they lived it, they owned it. It took three and half years to do that. Now those commandments they received in the 27 chapters and lived with for three and half years are turning into a message in Chapter 28 to be delivered to all nations in the book of Acts.
We are messengers but not the type of messenger that FedEx is. Unlike FedEx which delivers the message without opening the envelope, we have to open the envelope, learn it, live it, and own it before we do the delivery.
Remember this song? “Live it so that you can give it” … ya, that is how the gospel works.
