"There is a time for everything....." Ecc 3:1
Ecclesiastes chapter 3 is such a simple and yet profoundly true-to-life chapter that it has made its way outside the church deep in to the secular world. Countless secular songs, speeches etc...have been based on this chapter. In simple, clear and yet profound terms it lays out the contrast the human life is filled with. It says there is time to be born and time to die, time to plant and time to uproot, time to mourn and time to dance, time for peace and time for war etc....
It is not an attempt to explain why these things happen. It is rather just a reflection of what happens in life. Whether you are black or white, Christian or not, rich or poor, tall or short...they happen to all. There is no exception just because you're a Christian. "God loves the world" John 3:16 not just Christians.
There is a reason for each and everything that happens in life. It is beyond the purpose of this devotional to get into that. But, when those things happen to you and me, we find some of them easy and pleasant and some of them tough and hard to deal with. Two weeks ago we lost one of the most treasured members of our church to cancer. For the first time I saw the entire church, young and old, with tears in everybody's eyes. It was tough.
But Amos says, "God is good" Amos 1:7. And he continues to say, "A hiding place in tough times".
Tough times happen to all of us. Find God and he will be your hiding place in those tough times.
Blessings,
