My two year old talks really well for his age but of course makes a lot of cute mistakes when he talks. The other day he said to me "what did you ate?". That is not too bad for a two year old so I didn't bother correcting him.
His brother, however, who is five jumped in and became the English teacher. He loves being the teacher. He said, "You don't say 'what did you ate'. you have to say, 'what did you eat." I was kind of pleased with his grammar and I wanted to know if he can explain it. So I asked him to explain it to his brother. However, he didn't come up with good explanation other than to say that is the proper way but at least he was confident. He just didn't know how to explain it well.
We live in a world that demands to know everything. Well, logical reasoning is good and we should seek it. Unfortunately, it can only take us so far. There are too many important things in life that just defy logical explanation but are as real as anything. My son knew his grammar well. He just didn't know how to explain it. But he was confident in his knowledge. He knew he was right and he was, despite the fact that he can't explain it. My son's understanding of his grammar is a good picture of our understanding of God. Though we may not at times fully explain, we know that he is real. Though we don't understand him fully, we have no doubt that he is real.
God is real. He is as real as you and me. He is obvious, even though he is not physical. He is real, even though sometimes you just can't quite understand him.
