Identity

This week we were learning about identity with the youth group.  We sort of had a brainstorming session of what identity means.  Here are some of the ideas forwarded by everybody in the room:  Self image, who you are, who you think you are, your values, who you identify with, what you think of yourself etc...

If you are a Christian the following two points should settle your question of identity and who you are:

Created in the image of God (Gen 1:27):  The Bible teaches that we are created in the image of God.  If you genuinely believe that, it should make a world of difference in how you see yourself.  The world today is caught up in all sorts of theories about the origin of life.  The biggest shortcoming of all those theories, including the theory of evolution, is that they reduce the human race to a result of an accidental process. Humans become animals, just a little more intelligent. Subscribing to these theories is a sure-fire way to identity crisis.

Free from condemnation (Rom 8:1):  Life is full of ups and downs.  As imperfect humans living in a fallen world, we all make our own share of mistakes.  Nothing helps me bounce back from my mistakes, some of them grave, than to realize that my maker, my God, my boss is as forgiving as anyone can be.  God’s forgiveness and mercy is the only real solution to our imperfections.  Everything else is a quick fix that backfires.

Created in the image of God,
