Remember the parable of the two houses from Matthew 7? One built on the sand and the other one built on the rock? Jesus said the one built on the sand fell with great crash. That is sad. But, He said this about the one built on the rock:
“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” Matt 7:25.
What rock is this house built upon? Granted that Jesus is the rock. But was He preaching about Himself? I doubt it very much. Let’s look at the preceding verse which is the condition for the promise:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock”.
He is preaching about obedience. If your life is built upon obedience to His word, then verse 25 is true about your life.
You see, this verse is given to us at the end the sermon on the mount. If you have the time now, read chapters 5-7 for the whole sermon. He taught about prayer, giving, humility etc… etc…. Then He said if you put these into practice, you will be like the house built on the rock.
Jesus is the rock. But, don’t forget the same rock became a stumbling block to those who didn’t obey. According to Him what makes Him your foundation is your own obedience to His word.
"everyone who… puts them into practice...built his house on the rock.."
Obedience unleashes the power of His word,
