One of the seven men chosen to wait on tables in Acts Ch 6 was Stephen. We all know about how powerful a preacher Stephen was and the miracles that God did through him. The Bible says: “Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. …These men began to argue with Stephen, but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.” Acts 6:8-10.
It should also be noted that Stephen was a very humble man; humble enough to take the assignment of waiting on tables, even though he was an anointed preacher, a man full of God’s grace, power, wisdom and Spirit.
In the world we live in, humility is not considered a virtue anymore. Try putting “humble” along with self starter, team player, quick learner etc…on your resume. People will laugh at you. Regardless, humility is a virtue. We should seek it in spite of the humiliation and embarrassment it sometimes costs.
When you are humble, expect people to look down on you. That is the price you pay for it and it is worth it. On the flip side, you should also expect God to honor you. "God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble." 1 Peter 5:5.
I don’t know if you have noticed but humble people are always graceful. Make it your goal to be graceful by way of being humble. Keep telling yourself “HE must become greater and i must become less” John 3:30
In the house of God there is no such thing as a small job. If you think you are too big for the small job, God will say to you that you are too small for the big job. This is what I learned from Stephen.
