Faith, the bible says, is being certain of what we do not see. Heb 11:1
This definition of faith holds not only for the Christian faith but any faith, even faith in science. People who believe in science instead of God may have you believe that science is not about faith. Yes, it is. They do not know everything scientific. They just have faith in this system we call science. They believe it can explain everything but most of them can’t even explain how their car works but they have faith in science that it can explain even things like the origin of life.
Faith is a normal part of everybody’s life. Some have their faith in themselves, some in science and some in other things. What makes you a Christian is not that you have faith but that your faith is in Jesus.
Abraham is our father of faith. When the bible describes the type of faith Abraham had it says this:
“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be.” Romans 4:18
Hope was against Abraham. He had no hope of having a child. Everything around him: his age, his wife’s age, his circumstances and perhaps the people around him said there is no hope. But he had hope against all hope and that hope came from his faith in God. The only hope he had was God’s promise to him because he believed it.
In life we all run into hopeless situations. If not yet for you, it is a matter of time. That is when faith shines. That is when it hits even the most skeptical atheist that there is a big hole in our lives that only God can fill. Faith in God is the only hope you can have when all your hopes are gone.
