The Peace of God

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Phil 4:6

In this verse I want you to pay particular attention to the word “guard”.  First of all, what does guard mean?  It means:  to keep safe from harm or danger.  I got that definition from dictoinary.com.

Next, what is it that our hearts will be guarded from?

Paul is talking to the Philippians about problems and life issues that they have.  His first advice is to not be anxious about them.  He then says to bring them to God in prayer and wrapped with thanksgiving.   By the way, make sure you wrap your requests with thanksgiving before you bring them to God.  That way they will look beautiful before His eyes.

Now, let’s look at what God will do in response to that.

The first thing I want you to observe is that he is not promising that God will solve all the problems.  Instead, he says, He will GUARD your heart.  Guard your heart from what?  From your situation.  From the devastation of your issues.  In other words all your problems may still be there but the “peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard you heart.”  That is awesome.  Believe me, you don’t find that anywhere in the world. That is why it "...transcends all understanding..."  It is just beyond what the world is used to.  Halleluiah!!!

Finally, get this:  God is more interested in changing you than changing your circumstances and that is the gist of this verse.

I suggest that you memorize this verse.  It is worth it.
